The Mormon church sees God as the Supreme Being of the universe. However, He gradually acquired that position over a long period of time by living a perfect and righteous life. God the Father has a body (flesh and bones).
The Mormon church teaches that humans exist as spirit beings before their birth. At physical birth, bodies are given to these spirits. They are also given an opportunity for free-will choice. The physical world represents a period of probation. The status of a person in the afterlife is determined by the way that person lived his/her life on Earth. If the person lived by a satisfactory standard, (including the fulfillment of Mormon temple obligations) that person has the potential to become a god in the after-life. The person can also produce "spirit children" to populate a world of his own (like God did with the earth).
The Mormon church views Jesus and Satan as spirit brothers and sons of God. God put forth His plan of salvation for the world, and Satan proposed his own plan. Jesus accepted the Father's plan and offered to implement it as the Savior. The Father chose Jesus, and the spirit of Jesus was given a body through the virgin Mary. He was crucified on a Roman cross, and rose from the dead three days later to establish His deity. The character and life of Jesus is attainable by anyone who performs at such a righteous level.
The Mormon church holds that Jesus Christ overcame physical death and guaranteed physical resurrection to all mankind. However, spiritual death can only be avoided through personal obedience of God's commandments. Forgiveness of sins requires faith, repentance and baptism by an approved Mormon priest. The practice of baptism for the dead is an extension of this belief, in which Mormons are baptized in proxy for those who have died without proper baptism
The Mormon church maintains that although there is temporary punishment for those that are most wicked, Jesus Christ will establish a new kingdom that will consist of three levels: the celestial kingdom, the terrestrial kingdom, and the telestial kingdom

Mormons scare me in all honesty. I (I know this isn't reliable information) saw a group on facebook about mormons once, and read one of the discussion boards about a girl who had just turned mormon, who had been with her boyfriend for three years, was very happy and planned to get married, but as she had turned to mormonism, and her boyfriend stayed christian, she was debating if she should stay with him (even though they were still very much in love) and all the mormons on this group, were arguing that she shouldn't, even though she was happy.
I find this very disturbing, and incredibly sad. This woman was questioning everything she knew, all because of a book. She was considering leaving her loved one, everything. All because of this.
The fact that all the mormons were edging her on saying it would never work, because of a mix of beliefs, even though her boyfriend completely respected the fact she was mormon. I find this all very sad.
If anything, I find it a perfect example how religion, especially extremist religions, can break up, not only happy relationships, but as a whole, divide nations.
Shouldn't religion be about love, respect, and equality? Shouldn't the main aim of it all, to be to bring people together? Not tear people apart?

I agree, marriage, from whatever it was, has become nothing but a piece of paper that (in most cases) just means you get most of their money when they either die, or leave.
Its lost the respect and the meaning it should of had.
Like Nuthouse said, it should be about a spirit/soul joining with the one they love.
Also, I find it crazy when non-religious people, get church weddings. What relevance is there to them in the words the priest sprouts? Surely, in this case, you're just starting a lie of a marriage?

Yes, I don't think non-religious people get the fact they're having a Christian wedding, and they tend to think any other kind of wedding is pretend. This is because a Christian wedding, and other religious weddings are binding by law...

Who says you can't be bound unless some sex starved old man, spouts a load of waddaloo about being pronounced man and wife under god, an entity most people don't really believe in anyway, yet think other kinds of marriages that don't require these circumstances is pretend or doesn't mean anything?

A binding of love I believe in, but I really don't think it has anything to do with law. Couples are more in love before they get married, marriage just creates problems, like they think something magically changes once they walk down the aisle of lies, and gets married by a deluded priest, that everything they've dreamed of awaits them. When all that awaits them is the rest of their lives, and lets face it, statistically most marriages fail. How could god have let that happen I wonder....

Anyway, that is a far cry from all marriages, yet the whole concept of marriage is more or less flawed by religious beliefs...

I think a spiritual binding ceremony is enough, in a place maybe where you feel closer to nature, and where equality shines through enough to even have a woman perform the ceremony. No need for stress of divorce, you simply don't renew it when it comes down to it...

Law doesn't define everlasting love for me. The spirit is mre than a piece of paper, I agree with a spiritual binding ceremony. It shows you're serious, means a million times more, and is so much more romantic than a bunch of fake drivile most that have those weddings have to deal with.
Since when, if you're not christian, does it matter how you declare your love in the eyes of god? Surely you're just lying to yourself and everyone else if you think this means anything?

i went to school with a girl whos family were mormons. she totally rebelled, smokes, drinks, sex before marriage etc

Then Mormonism is certainly not for you. God speaks to the male and the male chooses his bride whether the intended woman is willing or not--she is trained not to question what God is claimed to have said.

It's called "missionary work", and it's usually performed by Mormon youth--door to door in the local neighborhood or abroad. They certainly believe in it.
